John Rocha

Born in Hong Kong of Chinese and Portuguese decent, John Rocha moved to London in the 1970′s to study fashion. Using Irish linen in his graduate collection he was inspired to visit Ireland, eventually moving to Dublin in the 1980’s, where he has lived for over thirty years, working closely with his wife, muse and business partner, Odette. Over this time, John has developed and refined his own distinctive style, constantly experimenting with fabric, silhouette and technique. His beautifully worked embellishments, hand knits and crochet and hand painted fabrics give a truly special and eclectic appeal to his collections.

The John Rocha collection is shown twice yearly in London and is stocked throughout the world in leading independent designer stores from Dublin to Tokyo. His London flagship store opened September 2007 in Mayfair’s Dover Street housing the John Rocha womenswear and menswear collections alongside John’s jewellery and crystal ranges complete with a small library. A selection of artwork from John’s own contemporary art collection is exhibited throughout the store.

John was awarded with the prestigious British Designer of the Year title in 1993 and since then has received widespread international recognition, and has expanded his work into other creative fields. While fashion remains John’s abiding love, constantly evolving and developing, he continues to expand his portfolio of work and to explore ever new areas of creativity and design.
